Who is Kids Luv Trees
Kids Luv Trees is an initiative created by children in the Preston Hollow neighborhood after the October 20, 2019 tornado in Dallas. Our goal is simple—to provide residents with a sense of hope and inspiration by planting trees on private property in neighborhoods devastated by the storm. These trees will help restore the charm of local neighborhoods and aid in community healing.

North Texas lost over 3,500 trees during the 10 tornados that touched down on October 20, 2019.
What is the North Texas TREEcovery Campaign?
The North Texas TREEcovery Campaign (NTTC) is a campaign created by the Texas Trees Foundation, RETREET and Kids Luv Trees to restore trees in neighborhoods that were devasted during the October 2019 tornados. The campaign’s goal is to plant more than 3,500 trees on private and public lands to restore the natural landscape of our cherished neighborhoods.
How many trees will Kids Luv Trees plant?
Kids Luv Trees is committed to planting at least 500 of the 3,500 North Texas TREEcovery Campaign goal. The 500 trees will be planted by Kids Luv Trees on the private property of homeowners who request assistance restoring their yards.
What is Kids Luv Trees’ fundraising goal?
Mature trees that are 6 – 9 feet tall cost approximately $275, depending on the species. Our goal is to raise $150,000 to plant 500 trees on private yards scared by the tornados.
Who are your other nonprofit partners?
The North Texas TREEstoration Campaign is a joint effort of Texas Tree Foundation, RETREET and Kids Luv Trees.
Texas Trees Foundation sustains a tree planting initiative for neighborhood parkways and medians, schools and other public open spaces, a tree growing facility to assure a healthy supply of trees for the future, and education programs to teach the importance and benefits of maintaining a healthy urban forest
RETREET is a 501(c)(3) public charity that redefines disaster relief by engaging communities to replant lost trees. For over eight years, RETREET has been organizing planting events to restore trees after severe weather events and natural disasters.
Where will the trees be planted?
Kids Luv Trees will plant trees on private property in neighborhoods affected by the Dallas tornado specifically, the area bounded by these roads: I35 just beyond North Central Expressway and Northwest Highway to 635. Our partner organizations will replant trees in areas affected by the 13 tornados that swept through North Texas in October 2019.
When will the trees be planted?
Our inaugural tree planting date for the North Texas TREEcovery campaign is scheduled on March 28 and 29, 2020. Other planting dates will be scheduled in the Fall of 2020 and Spring of 2021. We will continue to schedule other planting dates as needed until we achieve our 500-tree restoration goal.
How can I/my family get involved?
The “kids” in Kids Luv Trees cannot purchase 500 trees with the allowances they earn for chores around the house. Help us to make their dream a reality. Can my business get involved?
Businesses can get involved by sponsoring a tree planting event, making a charitable donation, and encouraging employees to help fundraise and/or volunteer to replant trees. Visit kidsluvtrees.org for more details.
How will my donation be used?
All donations go directly to planting trees during a North Texas TREEcovery planting event. The donations cover direct expenses necessary to plant healthy, vibrant trees including high-quality 6 – 9 feet tall trees raised at Texas tree farms, soil, fertilize, etc.
Why does the donation receipt list RETREET as the organization?
Kids Luv Trees has partnered with RETREET to organize the tree planting events. RETREET is a charitable 501(c)(3), tax exempt organization. For over eight years, RETREET has been organizing planting events to restore trees after severe weather events and natural disasters. They have all the tools, equipment, and know how to successfully plant healthy trees that will thrive for a long time.
How can I request a tree?
Homeowners located in neighborhoods where a tree planting event is taking place can request a tree by visiting our website and clicking on “Request a Tree” link on the main menu.

How do you select neighborhoods for tree planting events?
We select neighborhoods based on the level of interest of homeowners, damage to trees, and ability to raise funds for trees.
How many planting events will you organize?
The North Texas TREEcovery Campaign goal is to restore over 3,500 trees in neighborhoods impacted by the October 2019 tornados. We will continue organizing tree planting events until this goal is achieved and as long as funding allows.
What kinds of tree will I receive?
A representative of our partner, RETREET, will work with you to determine the best type of tree and planting location based on the unique characteristics of your yard. The trees we plant will be 6 to 9 feet tall, depending on the species, and will be sourced from a Texas tree farm.
When and where will my tree be planted?
In the weeks leading up to a planting event, those who request trees will be contacted by our partner RETREET to schedule time for a visit by one of our representatives in order to determine the best planting locations on your property. The chosen location cannot be changed once decided upon and marked, unless safety dictates otherwise as determined by RETREET.
